As of late, I feel as if I have been at a major crossroads in life- something that many of us have and/or will face. I have found that doubt is my biggest enemy. I go back and forth about decisions, and until more recently, I would only feel at peace after the situation has transpired. When I was reflecting about such times and thinking of writing this, my mind went to the story of Peter. If you don’t know the story of Peter, here is a brief synopsis:
One night Jesus tells Peter and His disciples to get in a boat and cross the sea. They follow Jesus’ wishes and make their way through the tempestuous sea. In the middle of the sea, they spot a figure walking on water which startles them, and they believe to be a spirit. This figure is Jesus walking on water to the boat to meet his disciples, and to calm his frightened disciples, Jesus assures them it is He. So to be sure, Peter calls upon the Lord to beckon Peter to walk on water alongside Jesus. Peter steps out of the boat and walks on water with the Lord. Just as soon as he began to walk, Peter became frightened by the storm and the waves surrounding him. Peter began to sink, so he called upon Jesus as his savior. Jesus reached out His hand and saved Peter, and all of the disciples and Peter declared Jesus the Son of God.
As you have read, Peter was saved as long as he remained faithful in the Lord. When Peter faltered in his faith, Jesus was there to save him. Like me, Peter’s greatest enemy was doubt. We all have many life decisions and frightening situations to face throughout our time on Earth, but if we put our faith in the Lord, we can be at peace and always know He will be there to offer guidance and unconditional love. I have found that by being positive and not faltering in the happenings of my life because of my faith in God, this has led me to find peace and comfort in my doings. In the bible, it states, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)”
Dear Lord, help us to remain positive in our woes and remain faithful to You and Your word. We ask for Your love and guidance to remain unhindered in our faith. Guide our thoughts and actions through Your way and word. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
