Positive Attitude and Passion for Life & Work
Chad Cottingham
We all want to be happy in life, and we all know that having a positive attitude feels better than a negative one. But for some reason, we’re all attracted to and can be easily drawn to the negative side – the comments, the snide remarks, the gossiping and the negative thinking. How do we go about establishing a more positive attitude as a daily habit?
I consider myself a very positive person, but having a positive attitude is not always easy and I struggle as well with being negative at times. I still sometimes see the world through a negative perspective, focusing on the bad and ignoring the good — especially when things aren’t going the way I had hoped.
I firmly believe that having a positive attitude and being happy is a choice. I know that it’s up to me to find the good, to be happy regardless of what’s happening around me. I am no longer pointing fingers or placing blame. I realize that everything happens according to God’s perfect plan. I am in control of my happiness level and no one can take that away from me. In every person, in every situation, there is something good. Most of the time it’s not all that obvious. We have to look. And sometimes we have to look hard.
Five years ago, when my beautiful 17 year old daughter had her dominate right hand amputated, it was very hard to find the good in it. It was hard to stay positive. But I had to remind myself that this was God’s plan, that He had bigger things in store for her life. I had to trust Him and stay positive. Since then, Carley has had more opportunities to share her testimony, to help others going through similar circumstances, as well as meet some famous celebrities. She would tell you this herself – that she would not change a thing. That it happened for a reason and that it was part of God’s perfect plan for her life. She is the most positive person I have ever met! Romans 8:28 – And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them ~NLT.
“Dear Lord and Heavenly Father, help us to choose to find the positive in every situation. Help us to realize that You are in control of everything. Thank You for having the perfect plan for our lives. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen”
