Positive Attitude and Passion for Life and Work

Chad Cottingham

My 20 year old son Alex is an all-or-nothing type guy. He gives 110% to things that he loves and enjoys, things that he is passionate about. Alex grew up as an athlete competing in a number of sports as a youth and later into high school. He always enjoyed lifting weights and working hard to be the best he could be. One quote that he had posted in his room really defined who he was: ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard!’ This drove him to outwork and outhustle everyone he ever competed against.

His latest endeavor is Cross-Fit. For the past two years he has literally dedicated himself to the sport. He lives, eats and breaths cross-fit. This new up and coming sport fits perfectly into his work ethic and dedication to fitness. His WOD’s (workout of the day) are regimented to push his body to the brink of utter failure each and every time – and he loves it that way. His diet consists of the best food available to fuel his body. He values every minute of sleep he can get, including a number of planned naps, to allow his body a chance to rest and recover. And this last summer, he studied and prepped himself to become a certified cross-fit trainer.

If you ask Alex about cross-fit his eyes light up, exposing his passion and enthusiasm in something he loves so much. Most people are passionate about something. Some are passionate about their jobs, some are passionate about their families, and others are passionate about their hobbies. What are you passionate about? What makes your eyes light up with positive energy?

Do you put that same energy and passion into your relationship with God? Does talking about God make you feel alive? Do you eat, sleep and live for the glory of God? Or is God just something you do on Sunday between your other passions and interests? God loved us so much and had so much passion for His people that He sent his son Jesus to take our place on Calvary – sometimes referred to as ‘The Passion of the Christ’. Do you have that same passion for Him?

I John 4:9 – God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.

Philippians 2:10-11- That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

“Dear Lord and Heavenly Father, help us to be as passionate about You, as You are about us. Help us devote time each and every day to prayer and reading the bible. Thank you for a love so deep it’s hard to comprehend. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen”
