Memorial Day has been recognized and celebrated in the Unites States since the end of the Civil War. Parades, ceremonies and dedications fill our countryside as we take time to reflect and thank those brave men and women who have served this great country. These soldiers have given life and limb to fight for our freedom, and for the freedom of others all around the world. These young men and women humbly join the military where they are unified from all walks of life to become the strongest, most feared military in the world – all in the name of freedom.
To recognize those that have served and fallen, our local CrossFit gym does a workout every Memorial Day called ‘Murph’. Murph is named after Lt. Michael Murphy and is one of the hardest, longest and most grueling workouts in all of CrossFit. Lt. Murphy was a U.S. Navy Seal officer who was awarded the U.S. Military’s highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. As he proceeded to higher ground to call in air support for his men, he was ultimately killed by the enemy. He gave his life for them. The movie ‘Lone Survivor’ portrays the heroism of Lt. Michael Murphy and others in his company, as Marcus Luttrell ultimately survives and shares the story for the world to hear. It’s heart wrenching to watch, but it makes you feel proud and thankful for men like Lt. Murphy. This is just one of thousands of stories where men and women put their life on the line for us. They put away their selfish ambitions and pride, to humbly join a bigger call and purpose. For this we say Thank You!
It makes me stop and reflect on Jesus Christ, the creator and Lord of the Universe. He humbly came down from the heavens above to become a man; He give his own life so we could live as one, in Heaven, with Him someday. For this we say an even bigger Thank You!
Galatians 1:4 ~ Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.
James 4:10 ~ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
“Dear Lord, thank you for all the men and women who have fought and died for our country, and, as a result, the freedom we have to worship you. Thank you for blessing the U.S. like no other country in the world. But more importantly, we thank you for sending us your Son, Jesus. It’s in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.”
