Intern Spotlight: Eli – Purdue University

Hello! My name is Eli, and I am a senior at Purdue University studying Agricultural Systems Management. This past summer I was an agronomy intern in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Before starting at Walther Farms, I had no previous experience with potato farming, so this was all brand new to me. I performed many tasks on the farm throughout the summer, but a few included scouting fields for pests and weeds, as well as taking soil and petiole samples. I was also able to learn how to use AgSync, the online system for our chemical and fertilizer recommendations.

This was, by far, the best internship I have taken throughout my college career, and the main reason was the crew I worked with. They never hesitated to teach me something about the growing process of potatoes and everything entailed with the process. I will be joining Walther Farms full time in the spring and a big reason why was because of my great experience in Nebraska. I am excited to build on everything I learned in Nebraska and to start digging potatoes again here soon!
